Schultz Test of Emotion Processing (STEP)

The STEP is a video-based assessment tool that examines aspects of children’s social information processing. Dodge’s social information processing model identifies specific steps involved when children make social decisions (Crick & Dodge, 1994). The STEP contains three tests — Emotions, Goal Acquisition, and Provocation — that assess different aspects of the SIP model. The STEP comes in DVD format and was developed for use with preschool through 5th-grade children.  Child actors range in age from preschool through 5th-grade and represent a variety of ethnicities.  For more information on the STEP or to receive a copy of it, please contact Dr. Schultz at dschultz@umbc.edu.  Samples of the STEP videos appear below.
